All Weather, Inc. Announces Next Generation in Automated Weather; First AWSS (Automated Weather Sensor System) Commissioned by Federal Aviation Administration

Sacramento, CA (March 21, 2005) -- All Weather, Inc., a leading manufacturer of high accuracy, high dependability weather information systems and meteorological sensors, today announced the commissioning of the first Automated Weather Sensor System (AWSS) at the Bloomington, Illinois Airport (BMI) in the United States. Jointly designed and manufactured by All Weather, Inc. and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for the FAA, the AWSS is the next generation in aviation weather measurement.

The AWSS features the complex National Weather Service ASOS algorithms for data processing and distribution. This ensures rapid and accurate collection and processing of critical weather measurements. The system provides minute-by-minute weather observations using a wide variety of precision sensor options, from forward scatter visibility sensors and laser ceilometers, to present weather sensors and freezing rain indicators.

"With the BMI commissioning, the AWSS becomes the most current weather system used by the FAA to provide operational weather," stated Tom Potters, AWSS Program Manager, All Weather, Inc. "Units have been installed across the US, in both the lower 49 states and Alaska. The system's advanced, modular sensor design makes it the ideal choice for measuring weather events at any airport, regardless of the geographical location or weather conditions."

Wide Variety of Precision Sensors

Designed to meet the stringent requirements of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the AWSS provides a wide range of precision sensor options for measuring visibility, cloud height, present weather, wind speed, wind direction, rainfall, and freezing rain. Easy to install and inexpensive to maintain, the system is suitable for airports of all sizes.

The AWSS features All Weather's 8364-F Forward Scatter Visibility Sensor, a patented four-head design that ensures accurate measurements independent of the effects of the environment. The 8364-F combines the visibility sensor's ability to measure direct transmissions in harsh conditions with the forward scatter sensor's ability to measure varying density and scatter functions. Unlike traditional two head visibility sensors, the AWI 8364-F can measure fog, snow, rain, haze, smoke, dust, and sand.

The AWSS also includes All Weather's 8329 Laser Ceilometer. Able to measure cloud height to 12,500 feet (3.75 km), the 8329 is the first ceilometer to simultaneously detect and measure up to four layers of clouds. This provides more accurate data in all weather conditions, whether heavy precipitation or low clouds.

Airport personnel can generate detailed reports using the predefined formats and communication protocols of the AWSS. Weather observation data can be made available to both local and remote users. Full Remote Maintenance Monitoring (RMM) capabilities allow quick and easy access to the system from a remote site via telephone.
